Arogya World India Trust
Arogya World India Trust is an NGO working to prevent NCDs, non-communicable diseases, through health education and lifestyle change, and is headquartered in Bangalore. We follow a doorstep health model taking prevention to people where they live, learn and work. We have reached 6 million people till date.
NCDs, which include diabetes, heart disease, cancer and chronic lung diseases, are among the biggest health and development challenges of the century, and a big priority in India. Nearly 61% of deaths in India are now attributed to non-communicable diseases, including heart disorders, cancer and diabetes. Today, 7 out of 10 deaths are due to NCDs and 80% of the deaths occur in low- and middle-income countries.
According to the WHO, eating a healthy diet, increasing physical activity and avoiding tobacco use can prevent:
- 80% of premature heart disease
- 80% of type 2 diabetes cases, and
- 40% of cancers
Prevention is at the core of our work. Our programs are thoughtfully designed, are science-based, can be deployed at the population level, and are showing good results. We are now aggressively scaling up.
