Arogya World India Trust
Arogya World India Trust is an NGO working to prevent NCDs, non-communicable diseases, through health education and lifestyle change, and is headquartered in Bangalore. We follow a doorstep health model taking prevention to people where they live, learn and work. We have reached hundreds of thousands of people till date.
NCDs, which include diabetes, heart disease, cancer and chronic lung diseases, are among the biggest health and development challenges of the century, and a big priority in India. Nearly 61% of deaths in India are now attributed to non-communicable diseases, including heart disorders, cancer and diabetes. Today, 7 out of 10 deaths are due to NCDs and 80% of the deaths occur in low- and middle-income countries.
According to the WHO, eating a healthy diet, increasing physical activity and avoiding tobacco use can prevent:
- 80% of premature heart disease
- 80% of type 2 diabetes cases, and
- 40% of cancers
Prevention is at the core of our work. Our programs are thoughtfully designed, are science-based, can be deployed at the population level, and are showing good results. We are now aggressively scaling up.
